These were the instructions given recently to an enthusiastic and dedicated group of young students at Eagle Heights Public School in London, Ontario. They were about to embark on a time-tested and low-tech method of communication. These students were going to hand write a letter to someone they had never met in a country half a world away.
“Linked by Ink” is the penpal project name that will connect students at Eagle Heights (in Canada) with students at St. Peter’s Primary School (in Uganda). The first batch of Canadian letters along with some student artwork have just been sent off to Uganda. If all goes as planned, Eagle Heights students should be reading responses from their St. Peter’s penpals by early to mid April.
Special thanks to the School Council of Eagle Heights. They have generously agreed to cover all the costs associated with this project. Lorie S. and Paul W. also deserve acknowledgement for their supportive roles in helping to make this project happen.
